How to choose the right pool coating color

The mere addition of color could have a big impact on how a concrete pool deck looks. Color is an essential element in any design concept. If you are installing, revamping, or planning pool deck resurfacing project, you might want to put extra thought on what color or colors to choose. Here are a few factors that should help you make a choice.

Color is a means of self-expression, putting a piece of your personal style on your pool deck. There is a wide range of colors out there, some happy, some calming, and more. If you want the pool deck to appear larger, using light colors can give an illusion of a wider space. Dark colors on a large deck, on the other hand, makes the space look more cozy and intact. If you want to emphasize a spot, like a focal point, use a contrasting color to make it pop or stand out. Different shades or tones of a color will make the pool deck look colorful in a subtle and harmonious way.

While aesthetics is an important aspect since you will get to look at your pool deck every day, it is also important to make the pool deck a functional space. This means you have to think practical when choosing colors for the deck. Dark colors tend to absorb more heat and hold on to that heat longer than you’d want to. This may not be a practical choice especially in areas where barefoot traffic is heavy. Light colors are more heat-reflective but are more prone to spill stains.

You can’t just ignore the fact that there are other features in the backyard that are involved in the overall look of the pool area. The exterior walls of the house, for example, already has an existing look and color theme. It would be appropriate to consider it when choosing a pool deck color. This way, the pool area would look connected the rest of the house. You don’t have to use the exact same colors. Choose a color palette that somehow complements it. If you still want to use a stand-out color, use them minimally in chosen areas.

The outdoors is filled with changing conditions. The sunshine falls differently at different times in the day. Certain shadows may fall onto the deck, covering up a significant amount of space. If possible, get samples of the material you want in a color you prefer. Put it out on the deck and live with it for a little while. See how it looks in the sunlight and at nightfall.
